ROAD IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETED ON A70
Mon, 05 Jul 2010
East Ayrshire’s roads are now safer thanks to two road improvement schemes recently completed on the A70 at Coalhall and Mote Toll by the Council’s Roads and Transportation Section.
The road improvement scheme at Coalhall has significantly improved sightlines at the junction with the B730 route to Stair, for vehicles emerging on to the A70. This has greatly enhanced road safety.
The Mote Toll junction lies to the west of Ochiltree and the improvement scheme here included the construction of a left-turn lane for traffic heading into Ochiltree from the west to help minimise the risk of queuing traffic on the A70. The junction forms part of the bus route to and from Ochiltree and the scheme will be of particular benefit to buses and other large vehicles which previously had difficulty negotiating the turn.
Councillor Bobby McDill, Spokesperson for Delivering Community Regeneration said: “The A70 provides for essential local traffic movements between communities. It is also an important strategic route which carries longer distance traffic from the M74 corridor directly to Cumnock, Muirkirk and other Ayrshire towns. East Ayrshire Council will continue to upgrade the A70, when funding is available, to enhance safety and improve accessibility to East Ayrshire.”
